Improved behavior of ‘Block element’ dialog (issue 370, issue 1282, issue 1853, issue 2076 and issue 2081).

Chrome/Opera-only changes

Fixed: Placeholders for blocked elements showed up in dynamically created frames (issue 2084).

Opera-only changes

Fixed: Opening the options page from the icon popup didn’t work when the option page was already open in a different tab (issue 2079).

Safari-only changes

OBJECT, MEDIA and OTHER requests are distinguished now (issue 2064).
Fixed: Tabs opened before loading the extension weren’t recognized (issue 2082).

We’ve just fixed some conceptual issues with the “Block element” functionality in Adblock Plus as available from the icon menu and the context menu on Chrome, Opera and Safari. This feature lets you select an element on the current page and generate filters to block it.

These changes are now visible in the development builds as of Adblock Plus 1.8.11.1386, and will be included in the upcoming release of Adblock Plus 1.8.12, planned for next Tuesday on March 10, 2015.

Install Adblock Plus for Android

If you already have Adblock Plus for Android, it should notify you about the update shortly and download it automatically.

We did a lot of under-the-hood changes again, rewrote the way libadblockplus is integrated (#16) and cleaned up the different methods for setting the proxy and deciding which method to use (#547).

Besides that we:

improved compatibility with Android Lollipop (#1498, #1848)
reduced the memory usage (#303)
included twelve new translations

and, of course, fixed a lot of various minor and major issues.

We are updating Adblock Plus for IE with version 1.4.

Here is a list of all improvements since version 1.3.

New in this release is the addition of the installer for Active Directory installs, which we really hope network administrators would appreciate.

Also, this version is the first version that will perform queries for notifications like all other ABP versions.

Fixed: “Block element” dialog and highlighted elements were staying visible after the extension is unloaded (issue 1843).

We would like to announce that the current devbuild 1.3.763 is going to be the basis for the release of Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer 1.4, which we are planning to release on Wednesday the 25th of February.

As of today, Facebook users will automatically be subject to more invasive privacy policies under the updated Terms and Conditions. This may be frightening, but their moves to individualize advertising – even outside Facebook – are really nothing new. However, it is now official. If you don’t like it, you can either quit Facebook or, along with checking a few settings, just activate Adbock Plus privacy features.
