Adblock Plus and (a little) more

Adblock Plus 1.3 for Android and an apparent change in permissions · 2015-03-12 18:34 by René Jeschke

We have encountered users wondering about an apparently new permission declared by Adblock Plus 1.3 for Android, namely: ‘full permissions to all device features and storage’. Here’s the explanation about this new permission.

It is a well known feature that Adblock Plus on Android can take advantage of a rooted device to set the proxy without any user intervention. Root access itself still needs to be granted by the user, of course.

Before the release of version 1.3 we did not declare this permission explicitly, though. This changed last year when we declared the ACCESS_SUPERUSER permission. Development build users already received this change with build number 328 from July 2014.

The description for this permission now explains what the application can do when it gets granted superuser rights. It does not explain that it might be impossible for it to gain these rights, though.

A little off topic, but couldn’t you guys add the easyprivacy list to the android version? It would be very useful.
    Thank you.

Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
