It is now possible to suppress the first run page in Adblock Plus for Firefox as well – with the current development build 2.6.9.3935, and the upcoming 2.6.10 release.

You can do this by setting the extensions.adblockplus.preconfigured.suppress_first_run_page pref to true, for example from autoconfig.js.

Today, after a four-month trial, a regional court in Hamburg ruled that adblocking is, in fact, perfectly legal. What happened is that a few German publishers took us to court over the right to block ads, but thankfully every user’s right to determine what goes when they surf online was upheld.

We’ve been asked by system administrators who want to deploy Adblock Plus on their network for a way to disable the first-run page.

This is now possible with Adblock Plus for Chrome. The current Adblock Plus development build, 1.8.12.1419, and the upcoming release, 1.9, can be configured by extension policies to suppress the first-run page.

This is another quality and stability release:

Slightly optimized performance, domain-specific filters will no longer affect overall performance (issue 2177).
Added extensions.adblockplus.suppress_first_run_page preference to allow administrators disable the first-run page if Adblock Plus is installed globally (issue 206). Note that additional changes are required to make this preference usable.
Fixed: $elemhide filter option doesn’t consider website signatures correctly (issue 2151).

Fixed: Opening the options page from the icon popup didn’t work when the option page was already open in a different tab (issue 2079).

OBJECT, MEDIA and OTHER requests are distinguished now (issue 2064).
Fixed: Tabs opened before loading the extension weren’t recognized (issue 2082).
