Adblock Plus and (a little) more

Adblock Plus and the Free and Open Source Software communities · 2018-05-30 17:12 by Rachel Brochado

In true open source spirit, we want to restate our passion for a community driven by authentic people. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the success and significant accomplishments of 20 amazing years of open source. Happy birthday Open Source!

We proudly support the Free and Open Source Software movement. Adblock Plus was born out of, and remains a part of, this movement, and we know that open source software is a key part of keeping the web sustainable, innovative and full of opportunities.

At Campus Party Brazil 2018 we had the privilege to meet folks from the Open Source Initiative (OSI) – Patrick Masson, the general manager of the OSI, as well as Nick Vidal and former OSI board member Bruno Souza, founder of SouJava (the world’s largest Java user group). Not only did the event remind us of the great significance of being open source, but highlighted the importance of having Adblock Plus support and get involved with the Free and Open Source Software communities.

Among many other positive outcomes, we had the opportunity to join forces with Endless OS – a GNU/Linux-based operating system which provides a simplified and streamlined user experience using a customized desktop environment forked from GNOME 3. We are happy to announce that now Endless OS has the Adblock Plus extension installed for users of the default Chromium and Chrome browser.

This is a great example of how fruitful the open source landscape can be, with countless possibilities for growth. We always think of open source as a chance to innovate and change the way we think about creativity.

We want to thank everyone from these communities who are making this year full of special celebrations.

What’s next?

FOSS Backstage

A few weeks from now, we will happily support the very first edition of FOSS Backstage, (13th and 14th of June Berlin, Kulturbrauerei) – thanks to newthinking who facilitated everything. This is an exciting new conference dedicated to everything related to FOSS governance and open collaboration. There is no doubt we want to be part of this great initiative.

FrOSCon

In addition to that, we’d like to continue the tradition of joining FrOSCon. We’ve attended for several years already, but this year we are going to be bigger! We’ll have an Adblock Plus booth in their project space, sponsorship, and talks in the conference program. In its 13th edition, FrOSCon will take place on August 25th and 26th in Sankt Augustin this year. It attracts around 2.000 people to its 8 tracks on everything Free and Open Source.

Join us for delightful OSI 20th birthday celebrations, and meet our friendly team!

We are looking forward to getting to know YOU!
