Adblock Plus and (a little) more

Stopping Netflix autoplay trailers with Adblock Plus · 2018-05-24 15:27 by Tom Woolford

Ahhh Netflix.

We love it. You love it. There’s nothing better than hitting play and binge-watching your way through a series or two. The only way they could possibly ruin the fun is by bringing in autoplaying trailers… Oh wait, they did? That’s pretty annoying, especially on a paid service.

Adblock Plus to the rescue! If automatic trailers are grinding your gears, follow these simple steps:

1. Left-click on the AdBlock Plus icon in the top right of your browser.
2. Click “Options”
3. Click “Advanced”
4. Click “Edit filters” in “Create and edit your own filter list”
5. Paste the following filter into the box
6. www.netflix.com##.billboard-row (credit to shbooms on reddit).
7. Click “Save”

Netflix will no longer have autoplay video, and we can all go back to endless, annoyance-free browsing!

From your friends at Adblock Plus, happy watching :D

Here how to disable video autoplay for “some” embedded player like Youtube, Dailymotion, Vimeo…

    1. install Adblock Plus the latest development build.
    2. Add the following filters:

    ?autoplay=1$rewrite=?autoplay=0
    &autoplay=1$rewrite=&autoplay=0
    ?autoplay=true$rewrite=?autoplay=false
    &autoplay=true$rewrite=&autoplay=false

I really like Adblock plus. I installed it on my PC to stop seeing Ads on my Terrarium tv windows app. Everything is cool but I think it is destroying the developers. They show ads for the funds to develop their app and they are doing this for all of us. Is there any option on Adblock plus to show ads on some apps and disable on other apps and blogs?

    Reply from Tom Woolford:

    Hi Bella,

As you may know, Adblock Plus uses Acceptable Ads, which allows publishers who follow some rules for making user-friendly advertisements to display ads on their sites, even with Adblock Plus enabled.

We can reach out to them and see if they want to be part of this program. Also, you can turn off Adblock Plus for specific sites by clicking the icon in your extension bar, and then clicking“Enabled for this site.” This will turn off Adblock Plus for that specific site.

    I hope this helps!
