Adblock Plus and (a little) more
Adblock Plus 1.2.2 released · 2010-08-18 10:15 by Wladimir Palant
Note: The issue with transparent context menus in Firefox 4 Beta 3 hasn’t been entirely resolved, it still affects the context menu of the toolbar icon. If another 1.2.x release becomes necessary this issue will be addressed there, otherwise in Adblock Plus 1.3.
Changes
- Updates to support Firefox 4 nightly builds and Firefox 4 Beta 3
- Subscription dialog: Made “Add a different subscription” button less prominent
- Subscription dialog: Fixed bad Chinese translation for the “Add a different subscription” button

Totally offtopic:
An article on OsNews re ABP http://www.osnews.com/comments/23698, titled Why I turned ABP on today, and quite a discussion re www and ads.
Thanks again for a great extension. You are doing a great work.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Yes, I’ve seen this article (didn’t read the comments though). And – no, it isn’t about Adblock Plus but about Chrome Adblock. Otherwise I would recommend Element Hiding Helper to remove the navigation that he wants gone.

Доброе время суток!
Я подписался на антитуху, а фильтра почти нет, в чем может быть причина?
Мозилла 3.6.6, Adblock Plus 1.2.2
проверял яндексом с запросом порно.
Файл антинухи заканчивается
“!=========== Конец общих правил”
А где основные правила?
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Может лучше к автору этой самой антинухи? http://forum.mozilla-russia.org/viewtopic.php?id=3679

Adblock 1.2.2 said to not be compatible with Firefox 3.6.8!!!!
Help, the ads are making Firefox slow and I hate advertisements!!!
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Adblock Plus is very well compatible with Firefox 3.6.8. You can install from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865/, if that doesn’t work see http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons

Firefox 4 beta 4 not compatible
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
It is compatible. Please install from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865/ and if you are using NoScript – disable it.

Re Sam’s comment on 2010-08-24 14:01 — Adblock 1.2.2 is no longer running, once installed, on Firefox 3.6.8 on Mac OS X. I automatically installed it from your update, as I have since I originally installed Ad Block 2 years or so ago. I get messages saying Element Hiding Helper will not run without installation of Ad Block, so I installed it from your Mozilla link, restarted, still no Ad Block.
The Unable To Install Ad On link you provided does not answer my question. I assume somewhere in your build for this release, the coding for OS X was removed or some other functionality with Firefox for Mac was removed or altered.
Please advise, thanks!

Could be one of these issues: https://adblockplus.org/en/known-issues#broken_ui
Or: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons#Corrupt_extension_files

Just awesome! Thanks a lot!

Element Hiding Helper just NO longer works (at least in the Mac version of Firefox), thus this update to Ad Block does not work. The simple solution is to simply delete the update and go back to the PRIOR update.
When you guys get it fixed, I’ll be happy to upgrade again. It’s VERY good software and is greatly appreciated.
But as of a few days ago, was still not working with Firefox 3.6.8 on Mac OS X.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Are you sure you installed Adblock Plus 1.2.2 and not the current development build (Adblock PLus 1.3a). If it’s the latter – yes, Element Hiding Helper is expected to break. That’s why we have Element Hiding Helper development builds that will work correctly.

I am having problems with adblock 1.2.2 and Firefox 3.6.8. I can’t launch pages or if I am on a web page and try to go to another page, it times out.
This problem just started with the update before 1.2.2 but it is worse with the new update. I turned adblock off so I can navigate the net
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
If I understood you correctly Adblock Plus is not the issue – Adblock Plus cannot cause a page to timeout. I suggest you create a forum topic with a more detailed description of the issue you are observing (see http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html#showmehow). Blog comments are not the right place to a longer conversation.

I don’t know which filter subscription you are using but EasyList doesn’t deal with adult websites. If you are using EasyList you should also add Fanboy’s Adult/Dating List (https://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions). Fanboy’s List includes the adult list by default however.

why i can’t install this on firefox 3.6.11 ??
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Since you provided zero information – no idea.
See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons and https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6208.

Adblock just upgraded itself automatically to 1.3 and now it’s broken on Firefox 3.6.12. As in, clicking the button does nothing, about screen is blank, and it doesn’t add any subscriptions.
Should I just revert back to 1.2.2 or will it be fixed soon? Or is it my system problem?
Vladimir · 2010-11-03 10:22 · #
Disregard my question, should have read the info. I can see now that FF3 support is dropped. Oh well, one more reason to switch over to 4.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
No, only Firefox 3.0 support was dropped – Adblock Plus 1.3 works fine in Firefox 3.6. What you see is either one of the issue described on https://adblockplus.org/en/known-issues#broken_ui or a profile corruption that is reported for Firefox 3.6 occasionally but that we didn’t figure out yet. If it is the latter, reinstalling Adblock Plus 1.3 might help.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Never mind, I identified the issue. Adblock Plus 1.3.1 coming soon :-(

Nice, my Adblock is broken,too!
Don’t wanna update to Firefox 4 now. But AdBlock says “I must”, when i continued use it.
What a shame!

Your filters are fine, they will be back once Adblock Plus is working again.
GrrrBrrr · 2010-11-03 10:35 · #
Solution not works for me!
And all my filters are destroyed.
GrrrBrrr · 2010-11-03 10:42 · #
Thank you! :)
All sites messed up without AdBlock Plus!
Vladimir · 2010-11-03 13:19 · #
1.3.1 works fine, thanks!
