I have updated but I now get an error message when I open a Firefox window…

AdBlock Plus is Missing The AdBlock Plus Filter Uploader can’t do it’s job.

Because the AdBlock Plus Extension is not installed there’s nothing the AdBlock Plus Filter Exporter could do.
    [Get Adblock Plus] [Cancel]

Firefox shows the following versions enabled…
    AdBlock Plus 0.7.5.3
    Adblock Plus Filter Uploader 1.0.2
Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper 1.0.2

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

You have to update Filter Uploader extension, only version 1.0.3 is compatible with current Adblock Plus. It isn’t approved on addons.mozilla.org yet which is why you will have to install it from http://adblockfilters.mozdev.org/installation.html

I’m getting Firefox crashes every few hours, whenever I leave CNN.com up and it updates pages a few times. I’m running FF 2.0.0.7 and Adblock Plus 0.7.5.3 along with 8 other plugins. I have another Firefox install on another WinXP machine. Same versions and plugins of everything, except Adblock Plus is 0.5.3.043 and it runs fine. Days on end it stays up. Any clues on what might be going on? Or is there a way to down grade back to 0.5.3.043 and let me test that?

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

Tools / Options / Content / Enable Java – uncheck this. Java is responsible for the majority of crashes, maybe this one as well.

your latest version of adblock plus does not appear to work with firefox latest edition 2.0.0.8, Have tried every way to install and says will install on restart but does not.
I cleared cache etc and removed earlier version but no success.
    Any ideas?
Customize Google also does not appear to work with the new version of Firefox either. Only these two out of my 8 extensions will not now function.
Regards and a great program! Hope I can get it to work as I have 10 second reloads on stock prices and the ads are a pain!!

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

It definitely works with Firefox 2.0.0.8. Have a look at http://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=925, “cannot install Adblock Plus” seems to be your issue.

Adblock plus is one of my favourite extensions but i want to tell you a couple of things i don’t like:
1-Now the the window of the blockable elements is horizontal, but i think that vertical was better. You could let us choose if we want it horizontal or vertical with an option in the preferences.
2-why do i have to open 2 windows to block an element?i mean, that it would be enough to open the window of the blockable elements and block them from there by double click or a single click on the icon under the column “state” (i guess….my extension is in italian). Now if i double click an element in the list, another window opens and i must confirm what i want to do.

3-just a question…...have you ever thought to make something like Opera’s block content? i mean to be able to block elements by entering a special page and clicking on the elements we want to block.

thanks and sorry for my english

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

    1. See http://adblockplus.org/en/faq_customization#blockable_position

    2. Usually, you won’t want to block an address without making changes – you need to remove the dynamic parts that will change with every request and replace them by “*”, otherwise your filter will be pretty worthless. So it isn’t as simple as clicking “Block.” But I agree, the whole experience could be way more straightforward.

    3. I haven’t seen this feature in Opera. Will take a look, thanks.

    How to block favicon.ico at http://ufs.pl/ ?
I think it’s not possible. Please check it and give me solution.
    Thanks.

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

Favicons are part of the browser’s user interface, Adblock Plus doesn’t block them.

    Hello,

adblock plus will not work with firefox 3.0b1

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

If you install from addons.mozilla.org it should work. However, there are known issues in the Preferences dialog, these are fixed in the current development build.

    Hi,

When I visit the www.economist.com site, my ABP icon is active on my taskbar below, BUT...none of the ads from the site are removed even when I enter the ad image links to be filtered. The message above the icon when the cursor is placed over it states: “Adblock Plus is active, but disabled on the current page.” Also, the ABP icon’s color is green, whereas on sites that are filtered, like the New York Times, the icon is red.

Is the Economist site aware of AdBlock Plus and overriding the filtering? How can I get ABP to work (filter) the ads at the Economist site?

    Thanks for your help…

    Xanthan Gum

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

No, there is nothing special about this site. However, there is a whitelisting filter in EasyList subscription (”@@http://*economist.com/|”) that disables Adblock Plus on economist.com. You can disable this filter (see http://adblockplus.org/en/tips?tip=subscriptions_remove_filter), and I ask Rick why he added it in the first place and suggest removing it from the subscription.

  8. rick752 · 2007-12-15 23:51 · #

There was a blocking script being used a while back there. It seems no longer necessary so I have removed it from the EasyList.

On one of my computers, iMac G3 10.3.9 the menu for the preferences does not appear and I can not add the filter subscriptions.

    Any ideas?

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

The menu is on the top of the screen and not inside the window – that’s how it works on Mac OS.

    Aloha!

I’ve installed this version on numerous Seamonkey systems but now it doesn’t install on a new Thinkpad T61. Error is “This extension can only be installed in a browser based on Gecko 1.8 or higher….” Yet it then indicates installation is a “Success”. But it doesn’t show up. Same error with earlier versions of the plugin. Seamonkey version is 1.1.7. Tried manually installing and have unzipped files to correct folders but do not understand the “.autoreg file creation and “touch command”. Is there a more detailed “step by step” for this procedure? Unable to create such “.autoreg” file. Using XP Pro SP2 on the TPad.

Thank you very much for your help!

    Aloha Again!

Whoa! Please disregard the last [above] post. I apologise that i never noticed they had installed Mozilla Suite by mistake! Sorry for the false alarm. I knew it was something easy. It was just too easy ;)

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

I almost believed that SeaMonkey changed something that broke my install script. Good to hear that it was working correctly when it refused to install in an old browser.

    Firefox 2.0.0.11
    Adblock Plus 0.7.8.3
    Windows XP pro
Have installed Easy List and Easy Element, Adblock Plus is enabled, cookies enabled or disabled, Adblock Plus window lists hundreds of sites with numerous hits tallied, but…

As I browse, nothing is blocked, every ad, every banner shows up just as it did before I installed.

Have I missed something regarding activation, are the above versions incompatible? Please advise.

    p.s.

Is it possible Zonealarm firewall could be interfering, I doubt it, but thought I’d ask.

Adblock is not working new version firefox which updated about 1-1/2 weeks ago (late 02/2008). Not working, not blocking like it did before. Please advise.

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

You better ask questions like this one in the forum (no registration required) – having a dialog is easier there. However, please read this recent thread first, sound like the same problem as in your case: http://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2148

Since installing 0.7.5.3 in Firefox 2.0.0.11, all Flash movies on Metacafe.com no longer play at all. :(

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

I guess you are on Mac OS X – then you disabling the “Show tabs on Flash and Java” option might help.

  16. Knox · 2008-03-12 21:56 · #

Wladimir Palant: No, sorry… I am on Windows Vista. (I trying disabling the “Show tabs on Flash and Java” option anyway. Did not make a difference. As a work-around, I have set up an exception for metacafe.com

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

Some filter is blocking the video for you then. You should ask for help in the forum, people there will tell you how to identify the problematic filter.

I’ve used your products for a long time on Windows and find it really usefull. Lately I’ve added a Mac to my computers and started using it there as well.

I’ve noted a strange behaviour since upgrading to Firefox 3.0 running on Mac OS X Leopard.

I have two accounts on the Mac, one that is admin and one that is a regular user.

For the admin user adblock plus installs without any problems and works great. For the regular user I keep getting a “restart Firefox to complete installation” message and when I restart nothing happens.

It’s great that my admin account is protected, but it’s really the regular user that needs most protection since that’s the one used to surf on all kinds of weird sites.

Is there a know issue with user levels?

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

It is an issue that sometimes happens – and has little to do with Adblock Plus. The usual recommendation is removing extensions.cache and extensions.rdf in the profile affected.

  24. Kent Damgaard · 2008-07-07 23:20 · #

It worked :) Yay! Now I can surf the way people should always surf.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Mr. Palant, Adblock Plus works perfectly. In the last few days almost every web page I visit has been hijacked by the enhancement, enlargement and elongate ads by a company I don’t need to mention. Adblock Plus has completely eliminated those ads. I have posted my results in the Mac Forum as well. I have nothing against advertising but enough already with those enhancement ads.
