Adblock Plus and (a little) more
New EasyList website live · 2010-10-11 09:11 by Wladimir Palant
Some might have noticed that the EasyList website hasn’t changed much in the past three years, it really needed to get a face lift. Michael has been working on a new website version for the past three months and now it is finally live. This should make finding EasyList-related information significantly easier. Also, the new website is available in two languages (English and German) with a third language (French) being planned.
Brief EasyList status update · 2010-07-06 10:44 by Wladimir Palant
Just wanted to give a brief update on EasyList. People who visit either Adblock Plus forum or EasyList forum occasionally probably noticed already that Ares2 has little time to work on EasyList and Michael is usually speaking on behalf of EasyList authors. This change is now official: Michael is now the main EasyList author. Also, Khrin and MonztA are joining the team.
More collaboration for EasyList · 2009-12-01 15:06 by Wladimir Palant
EasyList has grown very big over the time, not only in terms of file size or user count but also in terms of effort required to keep it updated. Quoting Ares2, “the number of new topics per week has increased enormously in the last couple of months” which makes keeping up a problem. The result of the discussion: there is a public EasyList repository now. In addition to Ares2 we have Michael and Erunno with permission to push changes to the repository — they should start doing so soon. I hope that more people get involved, especially non-Europeans (somebody needs to justify “USA” that Adblock Plus still mentions in connection with EasyList ;-) ).
What is going on with EasyList · 2009-04-07 13:06 by Wladimir Palant
EasyList development has to continue, despite the sad events. Many of you already know Ares2, he is a very active (and helpful) member of both EasyList and Adblock Plus forums. He has been maintaining a German complementary subscription for EasyList and Rick was speaking highly of his work. I asked Ares2 to take over EasyList maintenance and I am glad to announce that he accepted.
Sad news · 2009-04-06 14:06 by Wladimir Palant
I got very sad news on Saturday. My friend and long-time Adblock Plus contributor Rick Petnel passed away Friday night. I was informed about his illness two weeks ago but simply refused to believe that it might end like that. Sadly, there is no way of denying it any more.
EasyList and EasyElement got merged · 2009-01-06 11:51 by Wladimir Palant
After some discussion Rick decided that keeping EasyList and EasyElement separate is no longer necessary. Today they were combined into one subscription and I created redirects to make sure everybody using EasyElement or one of the combined subscriptions containing EasyElement gets updated automatically. Just to let everybody know that there is only EasyList and EasyPrivacy now. Adblock Plus will also recommend “plain” EasyList again starting with version 1.0.1.
EasyList downloads moved to MozDev · 2008-10-29 14:01 by Wladimir Palant
EasyList has been doing great lately, its user base is constantly growing. The downside of this — tens of millions of download requests arriving at easylist.adblockplus.org each month, amounting to hundreds of gigabytes in traffic. And while the server can easily handle these requests, the bandwidth use of my account is dangerously approaching the limit. Yes, a merely 8 kB small file can do that to you if downloaded sufficiently often.
Some impressive statistics [updated] · 2006-08-07 20:33 by Wladimir Palant
I looked at the site statistics for the first time since adblockplus.org went live. The traffic in July exceeded my expectations by far and makes me already worry about the traffic limit. We got 2 million page requests which translates into 130 thousands visitors — more than 4 thousands every day.
