Adblock Plus and (a little) more
EasyList and EasyElement got merged · 2009-01-06 11:51 by Wladimir Palant
After some discussion Rick decided that keeping EasyList and EasyElement separate is no longer necessary. Today they were combined into one subscription and I created redirects to make sure everybody using EasyElement or one of the combined subscriptions containing EasyElement gets updated automatically. Just to let everybody know that there is only EasyList and EasyPrivacy now. Adblock Plus will also recommend “plain” EasyList again starting with version 1.0.1.
Update (2009-01-30): I forgot that originally we also wanted to provide an automatically updated copy of EasyList without element hiding rules. It is now available under http://easylist.adblockplus.org/adblock_rick752_noelemhide.txt

I don’t want to subscribe to the Adblock easylist….
Please cancel from my computer

See http://adblockplus.org/en/getting_started#subscription, last paragraph…

Oh, and just to make it more clear: it is your computer, it is your choice what you do with it. I cannot “cancel from your computer”.

Hi Wladimir,
Firstly, thanks for the great add-on that is Adblock Plus – it’s always part of my default install of FF.
One minor point though – could you update your http://easylist.adblockplus.org/ site so that EasyElement & EasyList aren’t both listed as separate filters? I kept on trying to add them both, but every time I updated the list it removed one (as you’d expect: updating removes duplicate entries) – however, I only found the note here about the two lists being merged and not on the easylist page (which is where the “HomePage” link for EasyList takes you).
Cheers,
Bassmanjase.

easylist.adblockplus.org is Rick’s own website, I only provide the webspace. I’m sure he will update it soon, he just seemed very busy lately.

When I updated my Extensions yesterday I saw that AdBlock Plus HIGHLY recommended uninstalling Filter Set G because it was not being maintained and updated. So I replaced it with EasyList (USA) and it definitely got rid of a lot of annoying ads on many sites.
And as an added bonus, I can now run Flash videos on such sites as Fox News and Go Daddy that were not working before!
Is there ANY way to block out ALL images of Barak Obama? I’m sooo tired of his image popping up in the most outlandish places!
Thanks.

Is it possible to configure Adblock Plus so that all of the rules that are added in by what would have originally been the EasyElement list are simply ignored?
The reason I ask is that I’m a web developer and I don’t like that I now have to disable Adblock Plus whenever I’m working as it makes it harder to debug sites when bits are being hidden because they match some rule specified by EasyElement.
I’m quite happy to have the adverts removed when I’m working on a site, as long as I can see where they should have been, but having the surrounding elements removed too is simply annoying :(
If it’s not possible now, is it something you could add in the future?

Oops, thanks for the reminder – we discussed providing an automatically generated copy of EasyList without element hiding rules but I simply forgot. It is now available under http://easylist.adblockplus.org/adblock_rick752_noelemhide.txt

Wladimir, do you recommend EasyList without element hiding rules or stahdard EasyList version? А то мне тоже сдаётся, что эти правила скрытия не для наших мест.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
I recommend full EasyList. And the recommendation for Russian users is actually the combination Morpeh Rus List + EasyList.
