Adblock Plus and (a little) more

The plan for Adblock Plus 1.3.5 · 2011-03-19 14:53 by Wladimir Palant

The development build users noticed already — Adblock Plus 1.3.5 release is coming close, the current development build is already designated as a “release candidate”. With the release of Firefox 4 (both desktop and mobile) I thought that we need to release soon as well. One issue that people are complaining is the shortcut key for Adblock Plus preferences — in Firefox 4 it conflicts with the Panorama shortcut key. More important however is the support for Firefox Mobile 4.0 (Fennec). Thanks to some great help from Fabrice Desré I was able to add support in a very short time and we need to release it now. So yesterday I started string freeze for Adblock Plus 1.3.5, the plan is to release on March 25th.

There are some bad news for those who are waiting for Firefox Sync support however: it still isn’t done yet, I am still fighting with strange issues there. If I manage to get these issues fixed early next week then it could still make Adblock Plus 1.3.5 (note that it still needs to be tested). But the chances are not good, most likely it will have to be moved to the next release once again, sorry.

Update (2011-03-22): I am getting close to a working Firefox Sync support. However, I am now certain that landing it for Adblock Plus 1.3.5 will be too risky. Instead these changes should land shortly after Adblock Plus 1.3.5 and will be available in the development builds. We can do one more release once things look stable.

What’s this about sync support? I haven’t been following any discussions closely but do you mean sync support in terms of settings? If so wouldn’t the backing up settings to bookmark work? If not then I’m confused.

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

I mean proper syncing of all Adblock Plus data – options and filters. In particular, if data is changes on two computers “simultaneously”, the changes should be merged.

I don’t know if you will count it as a bug, but on x64 build, the new “Facebook Button” doesn’t exist…

I can see it only on x86 version.

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

It is only there if you logged into Facebook at some point. You probably never did with your other profile.

Aaaah! Understood! Indeed, with x64 never logged into Facebook.

Hello. In Firefox 3.6 i install old versions of Adblock because it has “One left click to see list of element”. In new versions this handy thing was broken.
Please make option in Settings – “One left click to see list of element”.

It would be wonderful if you took that option in the GUI

I posted this a couple of years ago. But I’m doing it again because recently IE9 has been released which is very much standard compliant and an awesome browser for Windows 7. You previously said you won’t develop ABP for IE. But, will you please change your mind now with IE9? This will be so well received by the IE users around the world.

I remember you once saying Google Chrome won’t be supported by ABP. However, later you changed that decision. I sincerly hope you will do the same for IE9.

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

See https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=44211#p44211 – as far as I can tell, IE9 doesn’t really change anything as far as add-ons go.
