Congratulations for another fine release!
I’ve been following the development process for the past few months closely. And if the version bump is an indicator for the amount of work that has been invested into this release, then you could’ve bumped it up to 2.0 just as well! :D
Ammad · 2008-12-01 22:58 · #
Finally, a version 1.0! :D
I’ve been using this for several years, and I would like to thank you for this addon, its one of the primary reasons i use firefox as my main browser.
Ton · 2008-12-01 23:20 · #
Thanks for Adblock Plus. This software makes the web bearable! Great to see that we now have a 1.0 version!
Ben · 2008-12-01 23:32 · #
I agree with Ammad above – ABP is one of the main reasons I use Firefox. Thanks for all your work and congrats on the new release!
Ammad · 2008-12-01 23:37 · #
Just one problem though, Ctrl+Shift+E doesnt seem to work with firebug installed. Don’t bother, I don’t use it that often..
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Firebug probably has its own use for this key. See http://adblockplus.org/en/preferences#settings_key about changing this hotkey in Adblock Plus.
JC · 2008-12-01 23:59 · #
Thanks for the update. Love ABP, and I recommend it to my friends.
aceJacek · 2008-12-02 00:27 · #
Wladimir, many thanks for developing add-on which makes Firefox best browser ever.
Brian · 2008-12-02 00:32 · #
You go from 0.7.5.5 to 1.0 and that’s all the changes? Would’ve made more sense to go to 0.8.0. :)
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
See detailed changelog – there were plenty of other changes that just didn’t quite have the user-visible impact.
Ammad · 2008-12-02 01:01 · #
@ Wladimir: so it seems: http://getfirebug.com/keyboard.html
thanks again for this great addon.
Eric G · 2008-12-02 01:46 · #
Congratulations on the 1.0 release of Adblock Plus! I’ve been running ABP for as long as I can remember… thanks for this great must have Firefox addon!

Congratulation for this great addon :D
Spi · 2008-12-02 02:12 · #
I use this 1.0 release to congratule you doing one of the most useful Firefox plugin (with Firebug). I think that this plugin is the the major advantage of Firefox in comparison of the other browsers, now I can’t stand ads when I use another browser or computer.
Thank you very much.
Zios · 2008-12-02 03:39 · #
It seems a bug with the new ABP release:
When trying to open a site from bookmarks, it doesn’t open in the current tab but often overwrite in the first tab.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
I am pretty sure that Adblock Plus has absolutely nothing to do with opening bookmarks in browser. Looking at your other comment, I would rather say that TMP is a prime suspect for this issue.
Zios · 2008-12-02 03:44 · #
Plus, the new ABP conflicts with Tab Mix Plus: double click on tab (for me, close tab) doesn’t work properly.
twipley · 2008-12-02 04:03 · #
backing up what (1.) Marijo said, plus @Zios how come you need other addons than ABP? no, but seriously: if two things/persons are in conflict, the one who appeared last isn’t necessarily the one to blame. ;)
mickey · 2008-12-02 07:43 · #
good, thank you very much.
Jack · 2008-12-02 08:38 · #
Just wanted to say thank you: For the best extension to Firefox. Ever. Absolutely!
Makes the web usable again :-)
FarSide · 2008-12-02 08:58 · #
Brian… inasmuch as you have not paid for ABP, with all due respect, kindly STFU. If all you can do is complain about a free product, then turn your computer off and go to bed.
No one cares if this is Ver 1.0, Model A, version 0.6 et al
THOR · 2008-12-02 09:46 · #
I AM GLAD THIS WAS RELEASED NOW I CAN BLOCK THOSE DAMN ADS BETTER THANK YOU AD BLOCK PLUS TEAM
Zios · 2008-12-02 10:01 · #
Thanks for Wladimir Palant for replying post 13.
I got 2 updates this morning, NoScript 1.8.7 and Adblock Plus 1.0. Then I had problems with tab viewing. By disabling ABP, the problems SEEMED RESOLVED. Thus I thought the problem come with ABP.
Aftre the reply, I did disable NoScript and left ABP active, no problems with tab view as before the updates.
Or do the problem come with NoScript? I post some words on NoScript’s forum.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
TMP does something pretty bad as I mentioned on http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9651 – and these issues will appear and disappear as random extensions are installed/uninstalled. So it is unlikely NoScript’s fault either.
ariel · 2008-12-02 10:30 · #
Congratulations on stepping out of beta. Thank you for an incredible work and very tight application that actually never felt like a beta.
Vic · 2008-12-02 12:30 · #
Well done and many, many thanks on an excellent app and by far and away the most useful addon for FireFox. Keep up the excellent work mate!
Ray · 2008-12-02 13:07 · #
1.0 not working properly with another ad-on. When ImgLikeOpera is set to Load Cached Images Only, Adblock no longer blocks the image placeholders from appearing, and the page now has lots of large rectangles where the ads go. Previous version worked fine.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Disable and re-enabled ImgLikeOpera – this might fix it (until you install something again). These two extensions use the same mechanism, so it is random which one gets triggered first.
Skip · 2008-12-02 15:22 · #
Congrats on 1.0! ABP is my most essential Firefox add-on, and has been for what seems like forever!
Mr. WTF · 2008-12-02 15:23 · #
why there is an exclamation mark on some of my own filters?
and don’t tell me it’s too short
see for example:
http://*.adultgogo.com/images*/bana/*
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Maybe you have several variations of that filter? There are “only” 14 possible shortcuts to get from “.adultgogo.com/images”, if all of those are used for other filters you will get the warning as well.
Olivier · 2008-12-02 16:14 · #
Impressive. Thank you very much for the hard work. Far down the line, it’s very appreciated.
Sébastien Forestier · 2008-12-02 16:22 · #
Hello,
the problem reported by Zios seems to me to be actually linked to NoScript 1.8.7, contrary to what says Wladimir IMHO.
I had 3 updates this morning:
Adblock Plus 1.0, NoScript 1.8.7, and Gmail Notifier 0.6.3.10.
Symptom: when opening a tab sometimes it overwrote another, when closing a tab sometimes it closed another or even silently crashed Firefox, or seemingly didn’t close any tab at all, but still adding some not closed tab in ‘Recently closed tabs’ history menu.
Deactivating all GM, ABP and NS extensions solved the pb. Then reactivating ABP -> everything OK
Reactivating NS -> same pb again
Deactivating NS + activating GM -> everything OK
-> IMHO the problem is in NoScript. Should be handled with NoScript developers then.
The troubling issue is that NoScript did something about compatibility with ABP between previous version 1.8.6 and new 1.8.7, so it’s a bit puzzling nevertheless.
rick752 · 2008-12-02 21:27 · #
Congrads, Wladimir on your continued improvements on ABP. This is a fine release … worthy of a “1.0”.
It’s nice to finally see a number in front of the ‘dot’ for ANY Adblock release :-)
I’m very proud to have been part of the best extension for Firefox for the last couple of years.
ps: I have no problems with ABP and TMP.

Hello! Thanks a lot for this great program – it makes my daily surftime a lot easier and more comfortable.. I have only one question : What about the new toolbar icon? Why is it named “Adblock Plus Preferences”, this is faaar to long in my opinion..It uses to much space and looks strange. Why not leave it the way it was?
Thanks again!
greetings
Windooze
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Because I wasn’t aware that the toolbar icon and the Tools menu item share the same label – so when I changed one, the other changed as well. First bug to be fixed :)

Congratulations on ver. 1.0 !! I’ve been using your add-on it seems like forever, and it is absolutely essential to me. Thanks so much for all your effort!
Cindy · 2008-12-03 05:03 · #
Had to disable AdblockPlus 1.0 since it will not allow me to view YouTube videos. Had the previous version of AdblockPlus before, no problem, but this latest will not let me watch YouTube vids at all. Very sad, because I liked Adblock.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
See http://adblockplus.org/en/getting_started#false-positives – and no, it has nothing to do with the version.
Rene · 2008-12-03 11:36 · #
Hey, thanks for the update, and even more thanks for making AdBlock Plus in the first place. It’s one of those things that make FireFox really great.
Windooze · 2008-12-03 15:40 · #
Hello Wladimir,
thanks a lot for your answer about the toolbar icon! Looking forward to see that fixed.. Continue your great work!
greetings
Windooze
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
It is fixed: http://hg.mozdev.org/adblockplus/rev/556fe771759a
But you will have to wait for the next development build/release.

Ah, I can see what divider filters are active now.
But, the EasyList + EasyElement (USA) is removing critical elements from the New Scientist articles [www.newscientist.com] and I can’t add exceptions for dividers.
Since I already had divider filters for them and NoScript I’ve just disabled it.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
I don’t see any issues on newscientist.com but please report the problem in the EasyList forums (http://forums.lanik.us/viewforum.php?f=64) and mention what exactly is being hidden and which filter is causing it (since you seem to know already). Btw, filters can be disabled – see http://adblockplus.org/en/getting_started#false-positives
MP · 2008-12-04 00:24 · #
Thx for your efforts in developing this. I regard this as an absolutely essential component of Firefox. Please keep up the good work!!! :)
Zios · 2008-12-04 10:43 · #
The home of NoScript (http://noscript.net/) reports the reason to problem with tab view:
NoScript 1.8.7 is not compatible with Google Toolbar 5 Beta and the NewTabURL extension, causing several tab-related issues. Please upgrade to latest development build (1.8.7.2 or above) if you’re experiencing similar problems.

It is a way to get back the “old” block window?
I want this as default:
http://img395.imageshack.us/my.php?image=likethiscr8.jpg
Not this – I don’t like it:
http://img300.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hatesthishx5.jpg
Or it is a way to rollback the the previous version that don’t have the new adblock window or add and preference that allows us to choose what one of them we want.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Yes, press Ctrl+Shift+E and you will get the preferences window. If you can point out the problems you have with the filter composer – please create a forum topic (you don’t need to register for that). You are the first one to have a problem so I would like to hear your reasons.
morten · 2008-12-04 21:35 · #
It’s not actual a problem. It’s have been changed.
Arnaud · 2008-12-04 21:58 · #
Hi, since the latest update, when i want to add a filter, it’s impossible to list the blockable items, what’s happen ?
P.S. FF 2.0.0.18
Thanks !
Peter · 2008-12-04 23:47 · #
Same problem here, in older 0.7.something, you had a drop-down list with all items of the page (showing already filtered items in red color). That was a mayor help esp. for filtering scripts, which are often not realy recognizeable from the browser-rendered view.
Were did it go? Can we have it back?
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
No, not same problem. See http://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2571 – that list was removed from Preferences because it is barely usable compared to blockable items list. You open the blockable items list by clicking the toolbar icon or by pressing Ctrl+Shift+V.
Arnaud · 2008-12-05 02:16 · #
Ok, forget it, i have found the hotkey to display the list of the blockable items.
/me slap himself because he did not have read the documentation.
Peter · 2008-12-05 13:30 · #
Thank you Wladimir for that hint with the “Bloackable items” dialog and its simple access using Ctrl+Shift+V.
I must have been blind not to find it myself.
matija · 2008-12-05 20:19 · #
