Adblock Plus for Safari Beta released · 2014-01-21 15:56 by Sebastian Noack

Install Adblock Plus for Safari

I spent the past months porting Adblock Plus to Safari. And by now, we’ve got something that is stable enough to release as a beta. Adblock Plus for Safari uses mostly the same codebase as Adblock Plus for Chrome/Opera. So it has the same features and every improvement we do in the future for either browser extension will automatically land in the extension for the other browsers.

Adblock Plus 1.2 for Android released · 2013-11-29 19:02 by Felix Dahlke

Install Adblock Plus for Android

If you already have Adblock Plus for Android, it should notify you about the update shortly and download it automatically.

The major change in this release is under the hood: We’re now using libadblockplus, the same library powering ABP for Internet Explorer, instead of the custom integration of outdated ABP core code we had before.

This allowed us to implement Acceptable Ads in Android, and it’ll allow us to implement other missing features such as domain-based whitelisting in the near future. Note that element hiding is still disabled, so as with the last few versions, you might see some ads that are not acceptable. We’re working on this.

Finally, ABP for Android has been translated into 13 additional languages, including Japanese and Italian.

Adblock Plus 1.6.2 for Opera released · 2013-11-26 17:17 by Wladimir Palant

Install Adblock Plus 1.6.2 for Opera (Opera 17 or higher required). Please note that it might take some time until the new version is reviewed an actually becomes available.

This release fixes an issue with size limitations for data storage in Opera, after a while filter changes would no longer be saved. With this release Adblock Plus for Opera uses the same data storage approach as Adblock Plus for Chrome. Note that this won’t work in Opera 15, a more recent Opera version is required.

There will be no corresponding Adblock Plus for Chrome release, this change is irrelevant for Chrome users.

Adblock Plus 1.1 for Internet Explorer released · 2013-10-08 18:04 by Wladimir Palant

Install Adblock Plus 1.1 for Internet Explorer

As with the previous release, this version is compatible to anything down to Internet Explorer 6. However, this version now also supports Enhanced Protected Mode (the default in Internet Explorer 11 under Windows 8.1) and is properly tested in Windows 8.1. Altogether, the improvements in this version:

  • Enhanced Protected Mode support.
  • Better user interface for update notifications.
  • Fixed a crash when files are being uploaded.
  • Fixed a hang sometimes happening in Internet Explorer 6.

There are still a few known limitations in this version. Also, some users are reporting Adblock Plus causing Internet Explorer hangs on Windows 8.1, so far we were unable to reproduce this issue despite identical configuration.

Install Adblock Plus for Android

If you already have Adblock Plus for Android, it should notify you about the update shortly and download it automatically.

This release disables sound in notifications that appear when the device is attached to a Wi-Fi network yet no traffic arrives at the proxy (meaning most likely that the proxy isn’t configured correctly). This change was implemented to eliminate annoyance for devices connecting to open Wi-Fi networks automatically without sending any data.

Adblock Plus 1.0 for Internet Explorer released · 2013-08-13 17:15 by Wladimir Palant

Install Adblock Plus 1.0 for Internet Explorer

We proudly present you the first Adblock Plus release for Internet Explorer! While there is still much room for improvement, we feel that the current version is ready to be used. It is compatible to any Internet Explorer version down to Internet Explorer 6 with the following limitations:

  • Adblock Plus currently doesn’t support Enhanced Protected Mode of Internet Explorer 10, we expect that to be resolved in a follow-up release soon.
  • Metro mode Internet Explorer in Windows 8 and Internet Explorer in Windows RT currently cannot be supported, these are locked down environments that don’t allow any extensions.

Other than that we’ve resolved most of the issues our original development build was experiencing. The one issue remaining is the placement of the icon: Adblock Plus icon still shows up in the status bar and normally you will need to enable it manually to show it. Also, we are aware of some remaining inconsistencies in the way blocking and element hiding rules work in Internet Explorer compared to Firefox or Chrome, we will continue working on eliminating these.

Adblock Plus 1.4.1 for Chrome and Opera released · 2013-05-28 13:19 by Wladimir Palant

Install Adblock Plus 1.4.1 for Opera

The news on the first Opera release based on Chromium is making the round. So we’ve released Adblock Plus 1.4.1 for both Chrome and Opera (Opera 15 and higher required). Note that the builds for Chrome and Opera are not identical, at the moment Opera isn’t fully compatible to Chrome extensions. The differences are:

  • Pop-up blocking feature doesn’t work (webNavigation API isn’t available).
  • Filters data is being stored in LocalStorage because FileSystem API isn’t functional.
  • The ABP icon doesn’t have a right-click menu (Opera’s user interface currently differs from Chrome here).
  • Argentinian Spanish locale is missing due to issues on addons.opera.com.

Other than that the Opera version is on par with Adblock Plus for Chrome. We hope that the issues in Opera will soon be resolved.

The changes in Chrome compared to the previous release are only minor at this point. In addition to some internal improvements we fixed a bug with click-and-hide not treading scheme-relative URLs correctly.
