Adblock Plus and (a little) more
Tu programa ha sido publicado · 2006-06-22 18:08 by Wladimir Palant
It is always fun to receive mails in a language you don’t understand, especially when the spam filter automatically sorts them out. Still, it seems that Adblock Plus has been listed on some Spanish site called uptodown.com and got recommended by their editors. Now I only need to know — is this a good thing? Does somebody know the site?

Uptodown.com is a freeware/shareware download site. They test and recommend free (like free beer) software and you can rate it and download the program either directly from the author’s site (but the link never works, obviously) or from their mirrors with a PREMIUM download, paying the download through a SMS. It is a bilingual Spanish-English site (but the recommended programs are not the same for both languages) oriented to Spanish people. I did not know about it (Softonic is far more known and popular) but it has been running for some years.
The comment translated into English:
YOU CAN BLOCK A COUNTLESS NUMBER OF ELEMENTS WITH THIS FIREFOX ADD-ON!
Are you looking for a solution against so much undesired advertising, which is slowing down your browser speed?
Adblockplus is an extension for Mozilla Firefox that allows us to block a great many elements which can slow down your connection speed, like banners, images, links, and so on.
In order to use it, we simply have to configure its options and choose if I want it to block remote ads, to show or not to show Flahs or Java elements, to check the ads links, ...
Then, it is only necessary to have it enabled and we will be able to select any element which can be blocked by using the right mouse click and to block it. Adblock Plus will add it to a black list so it will no appear again when we reload the page.
Note: For installing MOzilla Firefox extensions, we can install them from the web or drag the xpi file and drop it in the browser Extensions window.

Thanks for the translation, that’s more or less how I understood it as well. The “recommended by users” box is new, yesterday there weren’t any votes.
