Adblock Plus and (a little) more
Status update: 2010-12-19 · 2010-12-19 21:57 by Wladimir Palant
Done
- Finished security review of Anwiki, all XSS holes should be plugged now
- Set up rsync to be used for distributing EasyList instead of CVS
- A few more minor fixes for Adblock Plus/Chrome, updated subscriptions metadata
- Released two Adblock Plus/Chrome development builds (manually for now)
- Created forum area for Google Chrome users, updated link in the extension
- Investigated a bunch of Java-related issues, filed Mozilla bug 619349 and Mozilla bug 619399.
- Investigated WebKit bug 45586 which is hurting Adblock Plus/Chrome a lot.
- Reverted making subscription downloads “anonymous” (a change that went into Adblock Plus 1.3.2), turns out this breaks password-protected downloads as well as downloads through some proxy servers.
Next
- Release Adblock Plus for Chrome
- Add support for X-Do-Not-Track header
- Release Adblock Plus 1.3.3
- Performance: Cache element hiding stylesheet on disk
- Go on vacation

Me, and probably a few hundreds of thousands are eagerly awaiting the Chrome release to finally be able to ditch that crappy Firefox.

The support for Firefox Sync was not mentioned.
The thing I’m most expecting.

I won’t be able to do it before vacation.

@Peter Schepens: Will you be surprised if Firefox stops being crappy right at the time that adblock plus is finished for Chrome?

@Ferdinand
Not going to happen anytime soon.
Firefox is pretty far behind. They are starting to make up for it in FF 4.0.
FF 4.0 is still going to fall behind in a couple things compared to other major browsers.
3.7 became 4.0 then they said “Theres no way in hell we are finishing 4.0 on 3.7 schedule” They started stripping down the features and improvements they planned for 4.0

Do I really have to start deleting comments? If you like browser flamewars and want to reiterate nonsensical arguments – feel free to find a sandbox that doesn’t mind. I do mind.

“Add support for X-Do-Not-Track header” Pricavy should be the default?!
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
No, it will only be activated when a special filter is present. I expect this filter to be added to EasyPrivacy and similar subscriptions.
