This latest version completely crashes my computer when used – it maxes out memory and everything just freezes!

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

Sorry to hear that. However, it doesn’t do that for me (neither of the three latest versions I talk about here). A blog is not a good place to solve issues like that – you will need to provide additional information, e.g. which browser you are using. Sorry about that – all sorted now anyway!

Why does the non intrusive advertising get turned back on after every update? Please leave it what I set it to. (off)

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

It doesn’t, your settings stay. We had a bug in Adblock Plus 1.5.1 for Chrome but version 1.5.2 resolved that. Other than that – https://adblockplus.org/en/known-issues-chrome#filterstorage is quite problematic, some people get their settings reset regularly.

Have had adblock for a couple of years…. BUT sadly, Adblock Plus is now too problematic in Firefox. . When opening up firefox it takes much longer to open and commonly hangs with (Not Responding) and will regularly crash firefox altogether as well. It does this time and time again. After disabling ALL Plugins and extensions and AV and re-enabling one by one, the ONLY ‘addon’ that is problematic is ADBLOCK PLUS . Have tried this on numerous computers testing with and without other addons, AV, Security and different versions of Windows to and trying it against many many websites. Way too much hanging and (not responding) Highly frustrating. The common denominator IS Adblock Plus. Adblock ‘NEVER’ used to do this in the earlier versions. It is either too bloated; has too much going on aside of it’s main purpose, or there are major coding issues. Sorry guys, as much as I have loved having Adblock up until 2013, I have to search for something less problematic. Might just have to get back to basics, and remove ALL the un-neccessaries. It reminds me of Norton AV years ago when it became so viral on our PCs, and a huge resource hog, causing huge lag and slow downs across the board. It took them years to get their credibility back and rewrite their programs. But they got there! I avoided them for 7 years. I wish I hadnt reached the same point with ADBLOCK. Cheers guys. If I roll back far enough with earlier versions. This specific problem starts to disappear

I’ve used Ad Block for a while, but have also been noticing that Firefox has been hanging and has generally become slow to respond. Have been putting it down to a slow internet connection, but it has become so slow as to be intollerable and has prompted me to investigate.

Seems that the problem is AdBlock and Firefox runs like a dream once it was disabled.

Really sorry that this is the case, as I think AdBlock has been brilliant. Hope you guys get it fixed soon.

    All the best

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

It’s very unlikely that 96.6% of your site visitors have Adblock Plus. Still, feel free to apply: https://adblockplus.org/en/acceptable-ads#application.

This is an off-topic comment, I am removing it as usually.

Adblock is now blocking any image which includes the strings ‘facebook’ or ‘twitter’… WTF are you thinking?

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

Sounds pretty unlikely, unless you are added Fanboy’s Annoyances filter list. Either way, feel free to read https://adblockplus.org/en/getting_started#false-positives

How can I get my current ABP to update to 1.5.3 for Chrome? It did it automatically on two of my machines (one Windows XP, one Linux), but I have three other machines (Windows 8) that won’t update. Is there a way to “force” the update?

    Thanks.

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

You can go to @chrome://extensions/@ and check “Developer mode”. Then you will see an “Update extensions now” button.
