Adblock Plus and (a little) more

We are back in Top10 - and Adblock is out! · 2006-10-25 23:36 by Wladimir Palant

It finally happened — for the first time Adblock Plus has more downloads than Adblock! Only a few moments ago Adblock Plus moved up to rank 10 on AMO and pushed Adblock onto 11th place. I hope that this time Adblock Plus will get a permanent place in the Top10 (actually, I count on getting into Top5 within the next few days). Last time it was prevented by a problem with the caching server at AMO.

This addon is my favorite, plz add crystal look to the icon (ABP), maybe with The Gimp.

Congratulations, my friend, on a job well done! ABP’s success is all because of your hard work and dedication to this project. Salute.

This wonderful extension was mentioned in today’s Dallas Morning News’ Business section:

    http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/ptech/helpdesk2/102606ccdrPTECHhelpdesk.7753141d.html

    Keep up the good work!

Nice! It’s a pity however that he mentions Filterset.G at the same time – that’s the worst filter list one could use with Adblock Plus…

Thanks loads for keeping things going with this add-on. Easy to install & use, but most important, it works. Whatever the icon looks like. :-)

Nice! If i’m not wrong, AdBlock Plus IS already on the top 5 downloads!

Waldimir – what is the best filter then?

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

There is a list of 4 recommendations in the extension – EasyList, Cédrics Liste, dutchblock and Dr.Evils Liste. They are all good, so choose one.

Adblock Plus is an add-on I don’t want to miss! I keep my own filterset running, I hate not knowing what something does, so I write mine myself. It’s quite large now (compared with the recommended, it isn’t).

But what I really have to agree on that:
    > With that ugly new icon, [i garantee no one will ever download this shit again].

I don’t think that the icon decreases the downloads and it’s right the opposite of shit! But the new icon is really ugly… I’d be glad, if it would be changed back! It’s a bit a regress.

    Regards,
    Adrian

There are different opinions on the icon (as usually). You can change it back in your setup, see FAQ link above.

Forget about a tiny small icon, Really that isn’t a huge issue.
Adblock plus works and it works great.
It offers updates, both for it’s filter lists and itself.
Having a Ad Block application that works like a good anti virus program to keep annoying Ads Out (Not downloaded at all) is a must have.
Helps with Speed, and helps keep me concentrate on the job.

-* Thanks and Congratulations to Wladimir and all involved. *-

    Hey,

nice to see and congrats! :)

But I think you should integrate both icon sets as default into the AdblockPlus extension and let the user select what kind of Icon he prefer (in options/settings).

So it is easier to change that..

    Thanks in advance!

    best regards,

    iNsuRRecTiON

PS: Keep the nice app up and please integrate a better element hiding algorithm/handling soon, like whitelisting, etc…!

I added Adblocker (I think it was Plus) to my Firefox.
I put Scrabulous.com on the exception list, but perhaps not in time as it had already been altered. The login page on Scrabulous no longer has the menu blocks on it or and the personal page index is gone. I can get it fine on Internet Explorer, but there seems to be nothing I can do to make it work in Firefox even after uninstalling Adblocker. It still doesn’t work. What should I do?
    Thanks.
