Adblock Plus and (a little) more

Status update: 2010-12-10 · 2010-12-15 18:51 by Wladimir Palant

Done

  • Using JSHydra for automated code rewriting, seems to work correctly on all Adblock Plus modules now and can be used to generate Chrome-compatible code
  • Updated Adblock Plus for Chrome code — now using current Adblock Plus code instead of a one year old snapshot
  • Fixed a bunch of minor issues in Adblock Plus for Chrome (most importantly: made it work with XHTML documents)
  • Switched to newer Drag&Drop API in Preferences dialog (yes, Gecko 1.9.0 no longer needs to be supported)
  • Released Adblock Plus 1.3.2

Next

  • Do a security review of Anwiki (yes, that got urgent — an unexpected side-effect of my article on web app security)
  • Finalize new adblockplus.org start page
  • Finish Firefox Sync support
  • Issue reporter: Add warning if the user has too many subscriptions
  • Performance: Cache element hiding stylesheet on disk

Do a security review of Anwiki (yes, that got urgent — an unexpected side-effect of my article on web app security)

Curious – which article? The one on google.
Also – why did it become so urgent?

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

Yes, that’s the article. The guys reading it thought that it would be funny to test the security of this website and of course found some vulnerabilities in Anwiki (which happens to be a project in very early stages). So I had to go through Anwiki to check where the issues are – but there were too many, the security concept has to be changed. The Anwiki author fixed all the issues for now and we discussed a new security approach that should work much better.
