Adblock Plus and (a little) more

Adblock Plus 2.2.4 for Firefox released · 2013-05-08 17:09 by Wladimir Palant

Install Adblock Plus 2.2.4

This release fixes an issue when running Adblock Plus in the upcoming Firefox 22 release (no colors/images in filters list and list of blockable items). It also fixes a mistaken typo correction when a domain name with a trailing dot is entered.

Update (2013-05-10): As we are signing our releases again, support for Firefox 15 and below had to be dropped due to significant bugs in the way extension signatures are verified (bug 765676 and bug 726125). If you are affected by this, please update to a Firefox version still supported by Mozilla – at the moment this means Firefox 20 (recommended) or Firefox 17 ESR. Older releases are not safe to use!

Adblock Plus v 2.2.4 will NOT install on Firefox v 10.0.1.

    Why?

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

Because Firefox 10 is outdated and we aren’t compatible with its bugs. In particular, versions before Firefox 16 have serious issues affecting signed extensions (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=765676 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=726125). Please note that Mozilla’s support for Firefox 10 ended back in January, you should switch to a more recent version ASAP – Firefox 20 or at least Firefox 17 ESR.

I’ve updated the release announcement to explain the issue.

Many business, public/school libraries and The University of California only use Firefox 10.0.1.

Feel free to tell the administrators of these computers that it is time to update. Until then, you will have to stick with the previous Adblock Plus release.

Version 2.2.4 is NOT working with Firefox 21! It’s pretty much not blocking anything. All was fine until I upgraded from Firefox 20.x to Firefox 21. What’s going on? I’m going crazy with all these ads! Thanks Wlad.

I am subscribed to the Fanboy list and the Malware list. What else do I have to do?

It turns out that for some “weird) reason, Adblock Plus was set to “disable everywhere”. I don’t know how that happened. Once I got that unchecked, it works perfect now. Thanks for looking into this and the suggestion.

Hi, Adblock Plus is not working on my Firefox 21. When I go to Add-ons and I clik on Adblock Plus, I cannot change the Filter preferences, there is no button there, only Deactivate and Erase. There was also a tiny button in the left lower corner of my Firefox browser with the ABP sign and now there is no icon. So, in short words, ABP is installed (is in the Add-ons list) but it’s doing absolutely nothing and I can’t do nothing with it but Erase and Deactivate. Any thoughts?
