Driven by our company’s north star of “putting you in charge of a fair, profitable web”, we wanted to set a direction for every future Adblock Plus release by doing precisely that – empowering you to take control of your browsing experience by greatly simplifying all the complex bits.
Last week we announced major improvements to the Adblock Plus desktop extension which includes a refresh to the user interface (UI). Let’s take a quick look at the new interface.
Clean, modern aesthetics
We refreshed our look, making sure that finding your way around Adblock Plus is easier than ever. The generous amount of white space sets the stage for the important UI elements you’ll interact with the most.
Simple, focused controls
We’ve made sure that our main UI is simple and predictable by stripping it of any unnecessary visual weight. The core functionality of turning our extension on and off proved to be introducing friction and confusion for some. So we listened to our users, tried new approaches, and landed on an elegant solution that keeps you informed of the extension’s state.
Powerful contextual actions
In the old design, it wasn’t immediately apparent that you needed to refresh the browser for the state change to take effect. Switching Adblock Plus on and off now presents a contextual UI, prompting you to refresh the page directly within the interface keeping control in your hands, so you can finish up what you’re doing before hitting “Refresh”.
Memory usage reduced by half!
To top it all off, a 50% improvement in memory consumption of the extension, means precious device memory can now focus on important tasks at hand, such as running programs with improved performance.
The future is bright
Our look and feel is not the only thing we’ve overhauled. Gone are the days without new features. No more waiting years for the next ABP release. We run a tight ship now and we can’t wait to show you all the new features we’ve been working on. Make sure you stay tuned.

Well, we cant see this re-design, my pc is so slow that I cooked an intire dinner, and i cant reload any page now, pls sort this thing up.

Hi MNBT, sorry to hear that. If you think the problem for your slow pc is due to ABP, then please get in touch with our support team (support@adblockplus.org), detailing your device, OS, browser version, ABP version and hopefully we will be able to get to the source of the problem.

Hi SSin, you can use the “Block element” tool for this. This can be accessed by 1) clicking on the taskbar icon > “Block element”

Interface changes for the sake of change or “Clean, modern aesthetics” is a plague. I just wasted 15 minutes trying to figure out what happened to ABP… then found this web page to explain it. DO NOT do this annoying wasteful stuff. It added no functionality, it is just change for change sake.
IF you must do this, you should warn people: “Warning: You are about to update ABP along with Firefox. When you do it will look entirely different, you’ll have a hard time finding things, and you may believe you have been hacked! You have not been hacked! No improvements have been made, but you will now experience ‘Clean, modern aesthetics.’”
