Adblock Plus and (a little) more
Status update on adblockplus.org · 2008-04-02 15:31 by Wladimir Palant
Apparently, one of the scripts used by adblockplus.org was putting considerable load on the server (actually tiny load but it was invoked every time somebody downloaded EasyList). Unfortunately, the provider didn’t communicate that to me so that I didn’t know of any load issues until the server got overloaded yesterday and the provider disabled adblockplus.org. The problem is now fixed and the server load is acceptable again. However, I will probably still have to move to a different server — NetDepot isn’t comfortable sponsoring hosting for a project of this size.

Wladimir, do you think that we should simply boost the automatic updating to 10 days instead of 5?
ps: I cannot ftp to the site anymore. It seems to now gives me a “login incorrect” when I try to get in.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
I don’t think this will make much difference. If traffic is a problem, I’ll need to find hosting where it isn’t (and I see enough alternatives to choose from).

When will Adblock plus support Firefox 3 Beta 5? I’ve been using AP for a while now and really miss having it. Thanks so much!
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
See developments build section.

I made an unofficial version that is a little messed up but seems to work.
You can get it here:

To install, download, then “Open With” Firefox.

Are you aware that AP does not work with the latest MyYahoo Beta version? Keats
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Actually, I am pretty sure Adblock Plus works fine with MyYahoo. However, if you have filters in your list that block content on MyYahoo, these filters will be applied of course. Please ask in the forum, you will get help figuring out which filters these are.

Wladimir take a look at dotsrc.org
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
There is MozDev already. But I don’t think either hosting will be very happy about my kind of traffic. And I just hope to get something that is more reliable.

Is it possible to integrate a tool that tracks adsense publishers into your toolbar? It can show number of sites with adsense that belongs to same owner.
Reply from Wladimir Palant:
Sure, an extension could integrate with Adblock Plus to do that. Adblock Plus Watcher extension (see development builds section) already monitors all addresses received by Adblock Plus.
