Adblock Plus and (a little) more

Status Update: 2010-10-15 · 2010-10-18 13:06 by Wladimir Palant

Worked 3.5 days on Adblock Plus this week.

Done

  • First draft of a privacy policy page is under discussion
  • Some issue reporter polishing (particularly handling of transmission errors)
  • Tons of Firefox 4 work after JavaScript compartments landing — filed bugs on three issues, fixed an issue in Adblock Plus, worked around another issue affecting Element Hiding Helper
  • New icon to indicate slow filters (a developer doing graphical design — it’s an admirable attempt, you must give me that at least)

In progress

  • Handling of special cases in issue reporter (e.g. users without filter subscriptions)

Next

  • Finish issue reporter client-side implementation, mark Adblock Plus 1.3 as being a beta version (ideally on Monday)
  • Finalize all strings, upload the build to Babelzilla for translation (ideally on Tuesday)
  • Finish server-side implementation of the issue reporter (sending notifications, removing old reports, immediate feedback for known issues)
  • Firefox Sync support
  • Calm down Firefox 4 users demanding my scalp for breaking their Flash movies

I’m not running the Firefox dev builds (so this stuff doesn’t impact me yet) but I just wanted to let you know your work is appreciated. Thank you. Adblock Plus rocks.

It does annoy me when people complain about something being broken in a beta or even nightly build of firefox. If you have a problem being on the cutting edge of software development go back to using the production version!
I speak as a person who likes being on the cutting edge of new software but having no skills in software development just uses software as a normal person would, then reflect on its positives or failures.

So thank you for all the time spent on the software

There will be an Opera version in the future?
