Adblock Plus and (a little) more

New Release: Adblock Plus 3.7 · 2019-10-22 20:11 by Susie Concannon

Adblock Plus 3.7 for Chrome, Firefox, and Opera has been released.

We’re back with a new release! In ABP 3.7, you’ll notice several user interface (UI) updates and overall under the hood improvements, notably increased CPU (Central Processing Unit) performance.

We all know that ABP takes the hassle out of browsing the ad-riddled web. But did you know that when ABP block ads, you save battery life? Laptop users who also use ABP 3.7 can expect better CPU efficiency/longer battery life when browsing the web. That means more time spent looking at the latest and greatest cat memes, and less time searching for your laptop charger.

Here are some of the improvements we think you’ll find most useful.

Improvements

Added recommended filter lists. Adblock Plus can do more than just block ads. Now, when a user clicks “Add a new filter list”, they will see a list of recommended filter lists including language filter lists, malware protection filter lists, anti-circumvention filter lists, privacy filter lists, and more.
ABP Tip: If you browse websites in multiple languages, you need to add the appropriate filter list for each of those languages. For example, if your browser default language is English, but you frequently read Spanish blogs, you’ll need to add the Spanish-language filter list.

Added dedicated fonts for Arabic and Thai languages. We’ve switched fonts to better support both Arabic and Thai languages. The new font for Arabic is Cairo, and the new font for Thai is Athiti. Source Sans Pro will still be used for all other languages.

Improved refresh option. Users can easily whitelist a website by clicking the Adblock Plus icon and toggling off “Block ads on:”. In order for the change to take effect, the page needs to be refreshed. We’ve made the “Refresh” button more prominent and included a brief explanation about why the refresh is necessary.

For a complete list of changes and improvements, including links to each ticket, check out the release notes.

If you’re enjoying ABP, please leave us a 5-star review! (Tip: You’ll now find this suggestion within the ABP Settings page!)

Adblock Plus 3.7 can be downloaded directly at adblockplus.org, via the Chrome Web Store, via Firefox Add-Ons, or via Opera Add-Ons.

AB+ IS the best! I’ve used it since day one and I NEVER see ads, never. It’s like Netscape Navigator in 1997 based browsing. May you be wildly successful!

I have used it a lot, and it really helps with websites with ads. But, it is also, free on Google, making it really available to everyone.

I installed ABP with some trepidation and reluctance. It’s been close to two years now and I’d vote ABP as one of the best, most trouble-free apps I’ve ever used.
I’m careful and very picky about what I install on my computer but I have nothing but praise for ABP!
Thanks for working to make it even easier to use!

Please try to block twitch.tv ads!

Can you add a feature that ‘tricks’ sites who insist that you disable ABP?
It would work by returning a signal to the offending site that falsely indicates that ABP is not operative and not blocking their deluge of sh1t!
The offending ads can then be harmlessly directed to a dark hole in space!…

    Reply from Chichi Anwuna:

If a website insists that users disable their ad blockers before accessing the content, I’m afraid we can’t bypass that restriction.

I’ve never had, nor have I ever heard of anyone (Other than Sites who NEED the Ad Revenue) complain about ADP. I highly recommend it to others.
So, I’ve been trying to figure out what in the name of Einstein’s Left Ear I’m supposed to do with this ADP Notice.
I have ADP set for “Automatic Updates, AND it says I ALREADY have Version 3.7.
Whats with he bloody annoying ADP Icon switching from ADP to a Question Mark… CONSTANTLY?

I am a new user and cannot find the Refresh, and therefore cannot get the deals offered by Rakuten and others. HELP me please. Walk me through how I can do this.

    Reply from Chichi Anwuna:

You can add the Rakuten Cashback shopping filter list to ABP so that Adblock Plus is disabled on the site and nothing is blocked.

Copy the following URL and add it to your filter lists
    https://www.ebates.com/whitelist/ebates-cash-back-shopping.txt
This will ensure that Adblock Plus no longer interferes with your shopping experience.

Here is a link that further guides you on how to do this
    https://help.eyeo.com/en/adblockplus/add-a-filter-list?29a4a1bb

Please try this and if you are still having any issues with it, send us an email at support@adblockplus.org.

This is the best extension i ever had on my browser, its so good, it even takes out video ads! I LOVE this adblocker, its the best compared from other extensions. Whoever makes this is a real genius and deserves a 5/5 for excellent effort! I love it! I recommend this extension for EVERYONE, as long as they aren’t revenue heavy, its best!

I have used and loved this extension for ages. In the latest version I see a few gmail adverts sneaking in again. Is this a regression? I have not seen gmail adverts for years thanks to you guys.

  43. BlockAd · 2019-10-28 16:26 · #

Wouldn’t it be ironic if I saw an ad on this page?

  44. Joe M · 2019-10-28 20:21 · #

This app is pretty much going against a lot of people trying to make a living wage on the internet. The only way for people to make (not loose) money on the internet is to put adds on their site. This extension makes it hard for people to actually get paid for putting their content on the internet. BRUH MOMENT

    Reply from Chichi Anwuna:

We understand the need to support content creators and this is why we came up with the Acceptable Ads initiative. Through our Acceptable Ads initiative, ads that are not intrusive or malicious are whitelisted. This helps publishers generate income from the content they create.

nice. very nice I must say. I like it. nice.

I go to hundreds of news sites which will not allow them to be viewed unless I disable Adblock for those sites. So I need to individually disable each site. This is very time-consuming.

Please provide a way that someone can automatically disable Adblock for all sites that don’t allow you to view them without disabling Adblock.

    Reply from Chichi Anwuna:

We understand that this is happening on some sites and we’ve made the UI for whitelisting sites even easier. When you come across such sites, simply click on the ABP icon and click on the blue button to turn off ABP on that site. Whenever you visit the site again, ABP will remain deactivated on that site. Hope this helps!

Why has Adblock ceased to work on my computer? How can I fix the problem?

  49. koa · 2019-10-31 07:19 · #

The only thing I expect to see Blinking, or ?? is my Cursor. I hated it when the ABP insisted on showing the amount of Ads Blocked per Website. It still does it… Sometimes. No matter what the Settings.
I Clicked On “https://adblockplus.org/blog/new-release-adblock-plus-37#c007833”. It opened THIS Page. So… Where’s the “Reply”? I didn’t see it. If you’re not going to ACTUALLY post a “Reply”… Don’t waste my time. I have more important things to do… Like rearrange my Sock Drawer, sort Plastic Container Lids, Count the number of Chocolate Chips in my Chip Ahoy, Sweep the fallen Leaves off the Stairs, or something.
    Thanks.

    Reply from Chichi Anwuna:

You can stop the ABP icon from showing you the number of blocked ads by going to your ABP settings “Advanced” tab and uncheck the box for “Show number of ads blocked in icon”. Also, the ABP icon animates when there is a new notification, say informing you of a recent update. You can simply dismiss the animation by clicking on ‘the ABP icon and selecting “Close” on the notification panel. This is shown in the screenshot below.
