Adblock Plus and (a little) more

MAOW presentation slides · 2008-09-22 10:47 by Wladimir Palant

I was invited to give a talk at the Mozilla Add-Ons Workshop in Paris this weekend so I tried to give people an idea what it takes to maintain an extension project that already got rolling. The presentation went fairly well even though I could have told much more and I had to scrap the slide on security because the time has simply run out. My slides can be viewed here (note that S5 is apparently incompatible with the FullerScreen extension, as we discovered just before the presentation).

    Hi Wladimir…

    Please see http://tinyurl.com/fullerscreen-and-s5

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

I don’t really want to blame anybody – I didn’t have enough time to look into the issue, and I wanted to warn people who might run into the same problem. Some weirdness stays there however, even without that Opera compatibility line. In particular, there are big issues in Firefox 3.1 (which S5 can handle without problems, just not when FullerScreen is installed).

Hate to put this here, but a lack of contact info and my general laziness to join your site’s forum (no offense) leaves me no choice:

The latest nightly of FF breaks Adblock.

Feel free to delete this comment, at least I know you’ll have read this message ;)

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

I would buy that if posting in the forum would be more complicated than in the blog, but you don’t need to register… And contact info is there – on the main page. So let’s keep it with “general laziness” ;)

Reason why question would be better in the forum – “breaks” can mean very many things. Apparently you meant that it is time to update compatibility info again because the version number of the nightly builds changed…

    Hi Wladimir,…

Your right about no one will see about the source code,…

like me,… I need your extension to parsing some image to my “porndetection” application in Linux

but I can’t understand about how to make firefox extension to do that

To read your source code,… it is too many for me

Can you teach me how to make simple extension that can check the image using outside application, if 1 then block if 0 then display it.

    Please let me know

    Thank you

    “Why community?”

“You won’t stay with the project forever”

This one gave me a bad premonition…
    Wladimir please don’t leave us. Stay with us forever ;_;

    Reply from Wladimir Palant:

It’s just the way it is – at some point one has to move on. Don’t worry, I am not there yet ;)
