Adblock Plus and (a little) more
Introducing Adblock Plus Premium · 2022-12-06 21:15 by alumni@eyeo.com
The internet is an ever evolving place, and with its evolution comes even more distractions. For years, internet users have battled annoying ads and pop-ups. And now internet users are faced with all kinds of additional distractions including newsletter pop-ups, survey requests, allow-site notifications, and floating videos that follow you around your screen as you browse.
Which is why we’re excited to introduce Adblock Plus Premium. Adblock Plus Premium will be a collection of additional ad blocking features available at an affordable price for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. With Adblock Plus Premium, our ultimate goal is to bring you features that will allow you to further take control of your internet experience and browse the web the way you want to.
Adblock Plus Premium is available in most countries, however there are a few markets such as Germany and France, where Premium won’t be available until early next year.
At the moment, we’re launching Premium with one primary feature to block additional distractions. When you turn on the block additional distractions feature, you’ll be able to:- Stop floating videos. Hide the videos used by many websites that follow you around as you browse.
- Remove newsletter pop-ups. Put an end to the pop-ups websites use to get you to sign up for their emails and newsletter lists.
- Block site notifications and survey requests. Many websites ask to track your location or ask you to participate in short surveys. Now we’ll automatically decline these requests from the websites you visit.
And this is just the beginning for Adblock Plus Premium! We plan to continue adding features that make the internet a more enjoyable place.
In fact, we’ll soon give users the ability to hide cookie consent notices. In the near future, you’ll be able to put an end to those annoying cookie consent banners used on most websites thanks to a new cookie blocking feature we’re finishing up. This feature will be an improved version of what we’ve previously offered in our extension, allowing us to block even more cookie notices as we bring this filter list in house.
Of course, we will always keep our basic ad blocking features free because we believe they should be. Adblock Plus Premium simply gives us a way to provide additional features for those who’d like to get more out of the extension.
We know that we wouldn’t be where we are today without the support we’ve received from users. Many of our users have chosen to donate to us over the years, which has allowed us to keep doing what we do. To those users, we’d like to say thank you by offering access to Adblock Plus Premium to anyone that has donated to us in the past. To unlock your free access, click here and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Click on “Donated to Adblock Plus before?” underneath the payment section and follow the instructions on the screen.
For anyone else interested in trying out Adblock Plus Premium, start by installing Adblock Plus and then visiting our Adblock Plus Premium enrollment page. If you run into any issues, check out or Help Center for answers to frequently asked questions. And of course, we’re always here for you at support@adblockplus.org. Shoot us an email with any questions or just let us know what you think. We’d love to hear from you!

My verification code for this won’t work. I emailed you, but your entire email domain doesn’t work. I tried to report the bug to your forums, but your forum link doesn’t work.

Hi BB! I’ve passed your email address along to our support team and they will be reaching out to you soon to assist.

I’d just be happy if the regular ABP would work properly. It’s started missing ads that it previously always blocked (Reddit, Facebook and Outlook for example), and the “block element” option is totally missing now. Is this all locked behind the “premium” paywall?
Reply from Stephanie Holliday:
Hi Elmojo,
The Block Element feature is definitely not locked behind a premium paywall. As of now, Premium only includes our new feature to block more distractions like floating videos, newsletter requests, survey requests, and allow site notifications.
We did have a bug that broke the Block Element feature, and we’ve just released a fix for it last week. You may need to restart your browser to get the update.
If you’re having any other issues, or need help with anything, please reach out to our support team at support@adblockplus.org.

Thanks for the reply Stephanie! A PC restart did indeed fix the issue. ABP is awesome again, thanks!

Hi Stephanie! This might be a silly question. But why are you guys not just take a gift card once or twice a year? Like any given brand since they are all made by the same company anyways!
I am a cashier in a small grocery store and we sold a bunch of them during corona! See there is a barcode in the upper right telling the cash register the value of the card, how there is one on literally everything we sell.
Then there is a second barcode to activate them online which acts essentially like a user name if you create an account. A universally unique identifier or snowflake-id like all your Twitter posts have them!
Now under the paint you scratch off to use the card, is a simple password. We literally sell of the shelf accounts, like thumb drives and playing cards!
People could put them on their fridge, with a magnet, so they don’t lose them and in case they get a virus or a new computer.
All you need to do is integrating a barcode reader into your app and have your browser extensions show a session-id in a QR code so people can connect all their laptops in a hurry and didn’t you guys buy this Swedish company. Flattr?
Reply from Stephanie Holliday:
Hi Michael,
Thank you for your feedback / suggestion! As for Flattr, our parent company, eyeo, does own it. We’re working on ways to eventually integrate Flattr into the extension but no news yet on what that looks like. If you have any other questions, feel welcome to reach out to our support team at support@adblockplus.org.

Well this is simple enough and thank you for your reply Stephanie. Please go to a desktop computer with the extension installed. OK this may be complicated. I am a bit of a hobby programmer myself and know how confusing things get, so just ask one of your software engineers for help. They are going to get this instantly!
Open a new browser window with an empty tab. You get one with typing about:blank into the address bar. Now click the extension. You see the ABP logo, AdblockPlus, Upgrade and a gear, with a picture of a sleeping teddy bear under it. You just double this downward or to the side and instead have the Flattr logo, have it say Flattr and the gear and every time this is opened it creates a new session-id displayed as a QR code so your servers can connect the gift card, the app and computers without having complicated accounts, e-mails, passwords, just like buying food in a store!
You can push this as an update to everyone and wait till it goes viral, just selling itself. At the end everything commercial on the Internet is about attention and collision free address space!
Now like having advertising blocked or not, you have four options. Paying for one day like going into a movie. Automatically paying if you visit a page and starting to interact with it, basically a flexible subscription. A donation button. Flattr On/Off with colors like green and gray and behind the gear everything is like it is with AdblockPlus, but paying or not paying specific categories!

If you want me to sign something i could check if my 9 Euro ticket has some juice left in it and waltz into one of your offices? We could get all silly on eggnog together and crack up about the millions we made with the Bitcoin.
Me personally, i love waking up in the morning, taking a stroll through the snow. I love my family! I love my job and serving all those people. I honestly couldn’t sit on a desk all day being someones Führer. Hey you kids promise me to invest all the billions of Euros you undoubtedly going to make into reforestation and green technologies!
Here is some additional material about helping your governments not making fools out of themselves with that endeavor into the Digital Euro…

About the Premium subscribtion. How many devices can I attach to it? If I have to buy fresh subscription for each device I own, I am not interested :)

I’m BB from reply #1. I just want to note your service has been horrible. I have NOT been contacted by your support team. It has been several days. 2 thumbs down. Thanks for nothing. Glad I only wasted $2 on a 1 month subscription.

Before, Adblock Plus did for free everything you’re trying to sell today for money. Shame. What you do now is shoot yourself in the leg.
Daniel Jackson · 2023-01-08 19:18 · #
Why do we have to pay for something that was originally free?! PLEASE make the Premium features free again immediately, or I’ll stop using your product!
Reply from Adblock Plus:
Hi Daniel,
Thanks for reaching out. ABP Premium, which currently has one feature called Distraction Control, isn’t something the Adblock Plus extension has done before. While we’ve always blocked annoying ads and pop-ups, we didn’t offer a consistent way to block other distractions which include newsletter requests, survey requests, videos that float on your screen, and allow site notifications.
Rest assured that the ad blocking we have always provided continues to be free.
If you have any other questions about this or want to chat further, our support team can assist you at support@adblockplus.org.
