Apple’s new content-blocking API for iOS9 triggered a big debate within the online advertising industry over the past weeks. Naturally, we are happy to see Apple opening up by allowing the so-called content blockers for iOS9 later this month, but we outlined some of our concerns regarding the limitations of the current implementation.
In order to properly block ads on iOS, we have also been working tirelessly on our own mobile browser for iOS: Adblock Browser.
We’re still testing Adblock Browser, but we already like what we see:
- No annoying ads on your favorite websites, providing a much more pleasant, uninterrupted and clean user experience.
- Huge decrease of page-load times on ad-heavy websites.
For example, on our favorite tech blogs (don’t forget to whitelist them if you like to support the great free content they provide you), the loading speed is significantly faster than Safari.
See the following examples (Safari without content blocking is on the left device, Adblock Browser on the right):
Then, there are the ad-heavy websites such as tmz.com, where the page load improvements are close to mind-blowing:
On websites with less ads, our performance is similar to Safari:
We presented the results of all the tests in the following graph (we took the average page load times of three different page loads for both browsers):
We are very happy and proud of these results, and can’t wait to go head-to-head with Safari very soon when we release Adblock Browser to the App Store.
On top of our great mobile browser, we will also release our own content blocker when iOS9 is launched. This will block ads on Safari using Apple’s new tools.

Can you do something about Adblock Plus for Android? I know it’s not you guys fault. Ads so annoying. Adblock Plus is the best ad blocker out there and they got rid of you guys. They have a bunch of bogus ad blockers that don’t block ads and you can’t even run AdBlcok plus on Firefox or Opera for Android. The file won’t open for Opera after downloading and it barely works at all on Firefox. Google play stores sucks rotten eggs. And NO, I don’t believe Adblock Plus cuts into their revenue in any way.

Rob, what makes you say that Adblock Plus wouldn’t cut into Google’s revenue? Google is one of the largest mobile ad networks in the world – every time someone launches a page using an ad blocker it’s a missed revenue opportunity for Google.

I love adblock plus and consider it a must have for any computer, but please keep it as an extension rather than a browser. I will not use the browser. Firefox and chrome are irreplacable.
This was not a problem on android since firefox is available, but might be difficult on ios. But please try anyway.

How much will the web browser cost? How about the content blocker?

I agree with Aaron…I use adblock plus extensively on my chrome…I would prefer to have it as an extension rather than a separate browser to be used on safari on my ipad.I will not use the adblock browser
