No more status updates · 2011-02-04 20:53 by Wladimir Palant

I haven’t been publishing status updates for a while now. Reason is that the system doesn’t quite seem to work for me. Summarizing at the end of the week works well if I was focused on a few major tasks the whole week, on a chaotic week with lots of multitasking however I often simply don’t remember any more and wonder where the time has gone. Also, the next tasks that I list tend to get reprioritized, the list is often already outdated by the start of next week.

I looked through the available web applications to manage to-do notes, archive the ones that are done, maybe even with some simple time tracking. The ones I saw were either too complicated to use, overloaded with features or didn’t offer the features I needed (usually a combination of these issues). So I whipped up my own app, the data can be viewed by anybody. A modern web browser is required, meaning that anything but Internet Explorer should work (Internet Explorer 9 might work as well). Most of the data starting with January should be filled in.

Did you take a look at Tickspot.com?

No but I looked at similar applications. The problem with applications coming from the project management angle is that they focus on time tracking, completion date estimations and coordination of multiple developers – things that I don’t really need. They then fail to provide the view that I actually need (ordered list of tasks that need my attention) or make it too complicated to manage.
