Adblock Plus and (a little) more

Introducing Eyeo GmbH, the company behind Adblock Plus · 2011-09-30 12:04 by Wladimir Palant

A few weeks ago we (meaning Till Faida and me) founded a new company called Eyeo GmbH (pronounced aɪ-o). Yesterday I got the official confirmation that all the formalities are done. This company will help us fund continued development of Adblock Plus now. My official title is “Managing director” now but don’t worry: I will continue doing what I’ve always done — lead Adblock Plus development and make sure that we have a great product to present. And Till will make sure that the business part works and we get money to put into the development (ok, that’s pretty much what he has been doing all along). And our community will hopefully continue being the great help it always was.

This is a change from the previous arrangement that was based on a cooperation agreement between me and a large company. Turned out that working as a “subdivision” of this company had its downsides, mostly because of mentality differences. In the end we decided that it was best to part our ways and have an independent company, this made things simpler for everybody. But we kept our business partner, only that he is now sponsoring Adblock Plus as an individual rather than a representative of a company. What’s more important, he helps out with his business knowledge.

Other than that, everything is still pretty much the same as described in my last year’s blog post. Go on and read it if you haven’t done so yet.

    That is great news Wladimir.

The exact business model of Eyeo (and/or of the mysterious shadow-funder) is still to be clarified — I think that enabling the end-users to understand how things work behind the curtain is fundamentally something to be sought after.

Personally, over the years by observing your decisions, your thoughts on this blog, and the way AdBlock Plus is constructed, I have come to trust you fully. I have no doubt that things are on the right track.

You might need to spend more effort to convince other people, however.

Thank you so much for all that has been accomplished so far. I’m looking forward to what’s next.

My congratulations to Mr Palant. I second Olivier’s comment. I may have missed it, but I’d really like to know how Mr Palant is hoping to make money out of ABP. I too have come to trust him; it would make me trust him even more if he explained things. In any case, good luck!

thank you for a great add-on and also a fantastic, professional and well-organized support website here. Hopefully other FF add-on producers will emulate what you have going on here.

(delete if necessary, i just wanted to say thanks w/out having to register on the forum…thanks)
