Adblock Plus and (a little) more

Adblock Plus is the first ad blocker available for your new Samsung S7 phone · 2016-03-10 14:00 by Ben Williams

As of tomorrow, March 11, Samsung will start shipping preordered versions of its S7 and S7 Edge phones with the new Android 6 (Marshmallow) operating system pre-installed to customers in the US. In other countries it may have already landed. In late January, Adblock Plus released Adblock Plus for Samsung Browser, which only works on Marshmallow OS, so starting today all new Samsung S7 owners can instantly download Adblock Plus for Samsung Browser for all their ad blocking needs.

Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge devices are the first ones that come with Marshmallow installed, so if you’re getting one tomorrow you’ll be one of the first to benefit from the content blocking features in Samsung’s Internet browser right away. It’s important to remember that you can only download Adblock Plus for Samsung Browser if you are using the new Marshmallow OS on your Samsung device.

Many users may have been disappointed a few weeks back when they downloaded an ad blocker for Samsung Browser, but then found that it would not work because they needed the Android 6 update. Adblock Plus will now work out of the box with any device running Android 6 … including the millions of people who will get their brand new S7 or S7 Edge tomorrow.

When users begin using the new version of Android 6 (Marshmallow) on their devices, they can utilize Adblock Plus’s features, which include choosing to allow certain ads through via the Acceptable Ads program, or choosing to block all ads. Acceptable Ads will be turned on by default, but if you don’t want to see any ads, just click off Acceptable Ads. In addition, users can add features to Adblock Plus to protect their privacy, keep them away from malware sites and even block social media buttons. Any Android 6 models that have upgraded to Marshmallow OS can use Adblock Plus for Samsung Browser.

I would say that all DNS based ad blocking services was the first to be available as they are always available to all devices – released or not, it does not matter.

Samsung Browser 4 just became available for older devices with Android 5, like Galaxy S4. Will Adblock Plus(Samsung Browser) be available for these devices?

    Reply from Ben Williams:

Working on it! Should be done in a week or two.
