Adblock Plus and (a little) more

Adblock Plus 3.10 is live! · 2020-11-17 15:49 by Laura Dornheim

Customize what you block while we stop ads from sneaking onto your screen

As of today, November 17th 2020, we launched version 3.10 of Adblock Plus. This version brings you a make-over for the “block element” feature, support for even more languages and some improvements to avoid circumvention.

What’s even worse than annoying ads? Intrusive ads that try to bypass your ad blocker despite your clearly stated preference that you do not want to see them! Some advertisers still think ignoring users’ choices is a good idea and experiment with different technological tricks to circumvent ad blocking. So version 3.10 puts an end to a few tricks, advertisers have been pulling. As you know, we don’t have anything against advertising, as long as it’s consensual.

The overhauled Block element feature now lets you preview the specific element you want to block on a website, making it even easier for you to customize your browsing experience. You can use it by clicking on the Adblock Plus icon in your browser and then selecting the “Block element” feature in the menu.

For our user all around the world, version 3.10 also has some good news: Users in China can now share the number of blocked ads on Weibo. (Sharing on Twitter and Facebook is of course available for everyone, try it and help your friends to a better browsing experience!)
For the Indian subcontinent, we extended our Indian filter list that now covers 12 languages spoken in India. Spin your globe a bit and look to the Skandinavian countries, our users there have reason to celebrate this version as well with our newly added recommended filter list for the Nordic countries, thanks to our dear user and contributor Dandelion Sprout.

On top of all that, we made some small but nice design updates – if you spot them, let us know what you think!

Version 3.10 will be rolled out to Adblock Plus users automatically within the next days, no further action required. You always find the latest version at www.adblockplus.org.

I have restarted the browser and the version is 2.1.6, same as the one in the Mac App Store, no version 3.1 anywhere

Clicking the icon in Firefox toolbar no longer works. Blocking on YouTube no longer works.

It may be related to the update to 3.10.

The “Last Updated” attribute in Add-ons Manager should have a timestamp, not just a date.

A second restart appear to have resolved the issue of the icon in toolbar not working anymore.

But the additional timestamp for the time of update would be good.

Hello, back in the previous blog about ABP (Adblock plus user · 2020-07-15 20:06) I mentioned some items. Thomas Greiner kindly answered and made ticket(s) 816 & 817. I have not seen anything on that yet.
Finally found / noticed the “element blocking (helper)” of old that is build in and like it!
Thank you for your great product.
